Travel with me to the Kwaku Summer Festival, in Amsterdam NL

A visit to see my cousin Rita in Amsterdam lead to us checking out Kwaku Summer Festival over a weekend. It was a beautiful display of African, and African-inspired Asian culture (who knew Indonesian music could sound like Ghanaian High-Life?)! Yes, Kwaku is a Ghanaian name for ‘born on Wednesday’, however this event is organised by the Surinamese community in Amsterdam… Perhaps in homage of their African roots!

Kwaku Summer Festival is one of the largest and most vibrant annual events in Amsterdam, attracting around 300,000 visitors every year. The festival brings cultures together and provides a beautiful range of performances, dance, film, music and activities in Nelson Mandela Park.

My reel was also re-shared on the biggest Social Media platform for African culture, NWE

Find out more about Kwaku Summer Festival here.

I’ll be back in the Netherlands later this month supporting Rita’s new lifestyle venture Botaniq Luxe at Africa Fashion Week Amsterdam.
