Leave any body insecurities you may have off the beach! You’re in Rio!
Don’t be fooled by the stereotype that Brazilian women are all Victoria’s Secret models (or that they walk the beaches topless- sorry guys)! These latin beauties come in all shapes and sizes! And if there’s anything Brazilian women wear well; it’s confidence.
What ever their body size (or age; I’ve seen a few avós- grandmothers, sporting a two piece), they flaunt it well… in their tiny tanga bikini.
You’ll stick out like a sour thumb if you show up on a beach in Rio with a conventional bikini modestly covering your assets! But if you’re not ready for exposure (pardon the pun), a range of colourful sarongs are available to buy on the beach (though much cheaper in the market down-town).
Be comfortable and be confident (and since we’re on the subject of to-be, be very aware of your belongings!)
Don’t forget your sunscreen… and maybe a book (eat pray love has been an enjoyable beach read), unless you’ll be too busy spotting the scenery (and the eye-candy!)
A few of my favourite beaches (praia) in Sul Rio;
Leme and Copacabana (particularly in the evenings for a stroll or drink at a kiosk)
Ipanema
Leblon
Others further from town include;
Barra
Grumari
Prainha (said to be carioca favourite beach)

Why bring a picnic bag when everything is available to buy on the beach? Eating grilled cheese.

Everyone clasps when the sunsets…
